The Canal is most easily accessible during the summer months.

Description: This canal, constructed by Engebret Soot in 1849, has Norway's oldest sluice gates. Soot later engineered the Haldenvassdraget Canal further south. The canal was built in order to be able to float timber against the current to the sawmills in Halden. Engebret Soot's Canal was in operation until 1932. You can view two of the old canal's sluice gates, which have recently been restored.
