Description: The Alta rock carvings are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Around 6000 carvings have been found along the inner part of the Altafjord. The area of Hjemmleluft is accessible. The rock carvings were made over a long period of time in the late Stone Age and early Bronze Age, from 6000 to 2000 years ago. The carvings have everyday motifs: animals such as bears, moose, reindeer, halibut, whales and birds, human figures, hunting situations and boats.
