Description: The monastery at Halsnøy is what is left of the Augustine monastery that was founded by Erling Skakke in 1164. This was one of the largest farm properties on the west coast in the late Middle Ages. After the Reformation, Halsnøy was used as an official residence. The main building was erected in 1841, and was built out of stones from the church ruins. A garden was designed at the same time. Guided tours of the monastery grounds are available, and concerts, exhibitions and other activities are arranged here.
